Saint-Saëns: Le carnaval des animaux
Featuring: Róza Radnóti (piano) & Musicians of the Budapest Philharmonic Society
Moderator: Dániel Mona
Although this time we will be exploring stories written for the keyboard, this does not mean that only keyboard instruments will take the stage during the season. An essential feature of Camille Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals is that, thanks to incredible orchestration tricks, it brings animals to life through various instrumental combinations, from fish to elephants. Two pianos will be joined by strings and winds to bring the colourful masquerades to life. They will have to transform the slowness of a turtle or the grace of a swan into music. This is a play with timbre, volume, pitch, orchestration, tonality, and sound palette – a sound play, a sound story. Dániel Mona will select awesome works, and the audience will also have the chance to mix in music for animals that are not featured in the piece.
