Originally from Shan Xi (China), Chen Chen began his formal vocal training at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing when he was 16 years old. After being trained under the guidance of numerous esteemed teachers he was offered a full scholarship at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts under the tutelage of Brian Montgomery. There he had the opportunity to perform operatic roles which included Don José from Bizet's Carmen and Rinuccio from Puccini's Gianni Schicchi. In 2009 he made his debut in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte at China's National Centre for the Performing Arts with Opera Hong Kong. He was invited to participate in the Solti Te Kenawa Academia di Bel Canto in 2010. He obtained his Master's degree from the Royal Academy of Music in London in 2012 and was admitted to the Wales International Academy of Voice afterwards to receive tutelage from Dennis O'Neill.

As a lyric spinto tenor, Chen's voice is bright with a dramatic quality well suited to a repertoire of Puccini, Verdi and Tosti. During the summers of 2011 and 2012 he performed at the world renowned Engadin Festival and in 2012 he participated in Project Martha Argerich with the famous pianist. Chen is studying at the Dutch National Opera Academy at the moment.
