Balázs Fülei (piano)
The melodies and rhythms set the mood in every musical work. But when these musical tools are repeated, they turn into images, characters, scenes and stories. In a special programme by Liszt Prize-winning pianist Balázs Fülei, the stories weave into a chain. The visually powerful formulation of Brahms’ four ballads is interrupted by works by Schumann, Schubert and Debussy as interludes, in which the flow of the story is disturbed by desires, visions – or by the playing of a brass band that breaks the imagination from one moment to the next. In the second half of the concert, among Liszt’s picture-book legends, we experience the story of a lonely sailor’s spiritual journey, closely linked to Bartók’s image of nature: the music of the night articulates how nature welcomes man. Behind the many stories, we finally find the common thread: life itself tells a story through sound.
