Deniz Uzun

The Turkish-German mezzo-soprano Deniz Uzun is a graduate of the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University in Bloomington and was awarded the Elizabeth Connel Prize in 2022 and the Eva Marton Prize in 2021. She was part of the Bavarian State Opera's opera studio (2015/2016) and an ensemble member at the Zurich Opera House (2016-2021) and the Komische Oper Berlin (2022/2023).
Deniz has gained recognition in both opera and concert settings, particularly for her Wagner roles, including Fricka in "Rheingold" and "Walküre," and Waltraute in "Götterdämmerung." She has performed these roles under Ádám Fischer at Müpa Budapest, Fabio Luisi with the Dallas Symphony, and Gianluca Capuano at the Opéra Monte-Carlo. Her vocal versatility spans Baroque to contemporary music. Over the past ten seasons, she has appeared not only at the previously mentioned venues but also at Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, Salzburg Festival, Mozarteum Salzburg, Festival de Beaune, Jurmala Music Festival, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Teatro Massimo in Palermo, Teatro Regio in Turin, Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, Teatro Lirico in Cagliari, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, Konzerthaus Berlin, Rundfunkorchester Munich, Berliner Philharmonie, Bühne Bern, Tiroler Festspiele Erl, and Tel Aviv Opera.
In the 2025/26 season, she debuted at the Teatro Real in Madrid and at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées as Tamiri in Vivaldi's "Farnace" with the Ensemble Gemelli. She also debuted with the Istanbul Philharmonic in Berlioz's "Nuits d'été" under Sascha Goetz and sang "Shéhérazade" with the Philharmonic Orchestra Dinu Lipatti Satu Mare, conducted by Robert Farkas. A highlight of her season includes touring with the Cleveland Orchestra as a soloist in Verdi's "Messa da Requiem," conducted by Franz Welser-Möst, starting in Cleveland, continuing to Carnegie Hall in New York City, and ending in Miami and Naples, Florida. Following this, she will debut as Erda in "Siegfried" and as the 1st Norn in "Götterdämmerung" with the Wuppertal Symphony Orchestra, as well as Mrs. Quickly in "Falstaff" at the Teatr Wielki Opera Narodowa in Warsaw. Roles like Maddalena will take her to Opéra Marseille and as Carmen to the Valle d'Itria Festival in Apulia, conducted by Fabio Luisi.
