Christina Scheppelmann

The General Artistic Director of the Gran Teatre del Liceu (Barcelona) had an early start with the arts, as she was a member of the children’s choir of the Hamburg State Opera. As a teenager, she visited a number of European cities just to hear and see as many opera performances as she possibly could. After having earned her degree in banking in 1987, she left her home country, Germany, and moved to Milan to work in arts administration. She speaks five languages fluently, and her excellent communication skills were soon acknowledged, so she was offered a job at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, in Barcelona. In 1995, she was asked by Lotfi Mansouri to be his assistant at the San Francisco Opera. From 2002 until 2012, she acted as Director of Artistic Operations at the Washington National Opera, then she spent two years in Oman, at the Royal Opera House in Muscut. Her accomplishments have been rewarded by various awards, such as the Award of the National Labor Relations Board (USA) and was merited as the Commendatore of the Order of the Star of Italian Solidarity for her diffusing Italian culture and opera. Since 2014, she has been the General Artistic Director at the opera house of the catalonian capital.
