Tenor Weilian Wang was born in Yunnan province, southwest of China, and he studied at the University of Arts and Music Academy in Yunnan and at the China Conservatory of Music in Beijing, as well as at Johannes Brahms Conservatory and Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg, in the latter with Prof. Carolyn Grace James. He took part in master classes by Liang Li, Angela Denoke and Cornelia Helfricht, and won 1st prize at the Bellini International Music Competition in Italy in 2015. In 2019, he was soloist with the Neue Philharmonie Hamburg in the city’s Laeiszhalle two times, and in Requiem by Mozart under the direction of conductor Volker Hedtfeld in the Pauluskirche in Berlin. At his university in Hamburg, he perfomed Rodolfo from La bohème and the Duke of Mantua from Rigoletto in 2020, and Mime und Froh from Das Rheingold as well as Goffredo from Rinaldo in 2021.
